Discover the fishing city
If you are on holiday with your family, a group of friends, as a couple or solo, Essaouira is the perfect destination to satisfy everyone. There are a thousand ways to do discover this town.
Located on the windy Atlantic coast, about two hours southwest of Marrakesh, there is the small city of Essaouria. “Swerah,” as locals call it. This blue seaside town combines some of the best of what Morocco has to offer — excellent beaches, great food and vibrant culture — with a chill atmosphere that isn’t as prominent in other parts of the country. With its long beach, calm harbor and friendly locals, Essaouria has developed into one of the more tranquil spots in Morocco.
Things to do
The fishing port: You are free to wander around taking photographs of the rampart and the blue wood fishing boat, and soaking up the atmosphere, smells and all. Seafood lovers : you can have grilled fish and enjoy the freshest fish you have ever eaten!
La Médina : This vibrant city has a long history of colonization and its Medina is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Remparts of Skala : Take a stroll along the old Portuguese ramparts as the sun sets over the Atlantic Ocean. Fun Essaouira Fact: If you are a Game of Thrones fan, you will recognize Essaouria as the backdrop from where Daenerys Targaryen purchased her army of Unsullied soldiers.
Tagharte beach : Most people come to Essaouiria to enjoy its picturesque beach. A series of ruins about a 1.5 kilometers to the far end of the beach make it a worthy stop. You can walk, swim or ride a camel or horse to explore the ruins. Rent a beach chair, be, relax, watch kite surfers, soccer players, read a book and work hard on that tan.

eat & drink
Moroccan food is incredibly diverse thanks to the country’s interaction with other cultures and nations over the centuries, including Berber, Moorish, Arab and Mediterranean influences. You can taste the typical recipies in restaurants, as couscous, tajine, pastilla… You can also enjoy snacks while roaming in the streets of the Medina, such as stopping for a tea, eating moroccan pastry, munching on fish BBQ, or visiting spicies market.
Essaouira also offers different fun & exciting places in the night, where you can enjoy the sunset while listening to a live music band.

your travel bag
what you need to pack
Sport bag : Essaouira Kite Paradise recommends you to bring a sport bag on the day of activites. You can pack : Sunblock cream, Beach towel, Swimsuit, Gourd bottle, Sunglasses (and cord to navigate), Windbreaker jacket, Warm hoodie, Cap or hat, Sneaker, Flip flop,
Passport : the Moroccan authorities require the European passport to be valid for the length of your stay. We recommand to ensure 3 month validity left.
Power socket : In Morocco the power sockets are of type E (same as France).
Souvenirs : keep place in your luggage to bring back souvenirs from Morocco and its traditional handcraft : carpet, olive and argan oil, spices, jewelry, leather bag…
The local currency is called Dirham. 1 € = 11,30 MAD.
Cash : The Moroccan Dirham is not available to be bought outside of Morocco. For your holiday it is best to take cash to change in Morocco. Large hotels and banks all use the same government-controlled exchange rate. Smaller establishments such as riads and small boutique hotels which are not registered as an official exchange place, offer slightly less advantageous rates to cover the change of rate that can happen in the time between them changing your money and getting it to the bank.
ATM (cashpoint machines) : are widely available throughout the country. Note, however, that the exchange rate that you get from the card companies will be less cost effective than changing money in a bank or hotel.
Credit Cards : Most hotels and most reputable shops will accept major credit cards. Even when shopping in markets, some credit cards will be accepted. However beware, some souk shops may try to load another 5-10% on the price of the article when they see a credit card. There is minimal acceptance of Euro cheques although this method should not be relied upon.
